Like video games? Like wrestling? Born before 1985? Then odds are you played (and likely loved) WWF WrestleFest. Well guess what, WrestleFest is back and by the look of things it is the same game we know and love. Check out the gameplay trailer:
Available for the iPhone and iPad starting tomorrow, the first thing I noticed is that the roster is a mix of the old and new generations (much like WWE All-Stars). Of course you have Cena, Orton, The Rock and Austin, but you also get Big Boss Man and Jake Roberts from the original game. From what I’ve seen they have the same art style and control scheme that they had over 20 years ago. CM Punk and Triple H lead the DLC, and although Hulk Hogan is absent (due to his TNA affiliation) we do get Randy Savage, who was not in the original.
I can’t say enough how much I loved this game. Other wrestling games existed and while some of them had the big names, they never had the moves those names used. WrestleFest was the first to make each superstar feel different. The Ultimate Warrior had all of his signature moves from the gorilla press to the flying shoulder. Earthquake (my favorite character to play with) gave the thumbs down before stomping around his opponent to perform the Earthquake Splash. They even had all the taunts! It was absolutely perfect for the time. It may not be WWE ’12, but it’ll be every bit the nostalgia trip a guy like me is looking for.
